Pause Play Wellness...What Is That?!

Updated: Aug 19, 2020

Before I can answer that question, I have to give you some of the back story here. (If you are not here for the tea, then feel free to skip down to the Lizzo gif and carry on from there)

At the beginning of 2020, I was on a fast-track to burn out 🚂 . I was asking my body to show up and show out daily, not taking care of my spirit, not prioritizing the things that bring me joy, and not creating boundaries to rest my mind, body, and soul. I was in GO mode at all times and it was taking a toll. By this point however, I had already began to harness the tools and educate myself on self-care practices for the enrichment of my life, but had yet to integrate them into my actual routine. Everything from prayer and meditation to crystal healing and energy work were apart of my arsenal, they were just collecting dust in the corner while I went on my daily hamster wheel excursion. If they could talk, I'd like to think they were sipping tea & saying "awwww...how cute, she thinks she can handle this all by herself, poor thing...she'll learn". In hindsight now though, I recognize that its all about timing and they waited patiently for the right time to make a grand appearance--and that they did honey. Cut to mid-February, 2020. Boom. Bam. Boom. Back Injury. Boom.

Yep, I injured my back and just like that I had to go sit in the corner and think about what I had done.

Alexa, play "Bag Lady" by Erykah Badu. I was completely distraught, scared, frustrated, all the things.

That's when my self-care and spiritual practice arsenal entered the scene like:

Shablam! If I could score them:

It was painful. It was unpleasant. It was clumsy. But it was happening and there was no turning back. All of a sudden, I was called to deeply immerse myself in prayer, meditation, affirmation work, veganism (which I'm not following currently but more on that later), ayurveda, crystal healing, & reiki energy healing to name a few. Spirit completely inundated my life through powerful teachers and mentors including Queen Afua, Laura Ellis, Millana Snow, Natalia Benson, Jai Dev, Madison of Open Eye Crystals, and my incredible boyfriend. And as the saying goes, once you know better you do better.

This all happened to coincide in complete alignment with the timing of the global pandemic. Between my injury and the world abruptly shifting, it felt like all possible excuses were eliminated to stop me from really embracing the change that so obviously wanted to take its rightful place in my life. God was like:

So here we are. While my body is still recovering and has very loudly let me know she's gonna take her sweet time doing so the moment I think otherwise, my spirit has never been more sound and my general wellbeing has never been more at peace. Do I still have to do the work? Absolutely, its an ongoing practice. That's why its called a practice. But👏🏾 I 👏🏾am 👏🏾here👏🏾 for👏🏾it!

In this time I studied, learned, and practiced the parts of the Vision that would later become

Pause Play Wellness, including:

  1. Became a Certified RYT-200hr Hatha Yoga Instructor 🧘🏾‍♀️

  2. Became a Certified Integrative Energy Healer 🤲🏾

  3. Became Attuned for Reiki I (Reiki II Attunement happening next month) 👐🏾

  4. And more coming soon...🤫

Only a few people have been aware of these interests and my commitment to them in this time. Even fewer were aware that I would be launching my own business in this capacity and that was all very intentional. Sometimes (most of the time actually) we prematurely share things that we are not ready to. I am so guilty of that. We are excited and we want others to know and be a part of what we are creating. However, this was not one of those times. I needed to make this move by myself, for myself, without the two cents of anyone else (because #coinshortage) 😂

💁🏽‍♀️ Here are the lessons I learned from moving in silence and minding my business:

  1. I strengthened my own insight allowing it to be untainted by others' opinions, praise, or confusion

  2. I was able to fully embody my new practices without pressure of "getting it right"

  3. I was able to learn at my own pace with no result or outcome in mind as added pressure

  4. I had the space to actually gage if these things brought me joy absent of public opinion

One challenge that I faced during this time was thinking how was I going to reappear in the world without my regular muscle armor and be taken seriously in this new light? If you've known me personally, then you know that I am a dancer and have worked professionally as a high-performance personal trainer for 5+ years. I had been so focused on the aesthetic aspects of health and wellness that I failed to fully integrate a balanced lifestyle that also kept my spirit aligned & energy charged. "Wellness" I've learned is a state of balance that is cultivated by engaging in activity AND inactivity that heals old wounds, creates pathways for soul purpose to emanate, quiets the mind so the heart can be heard, & ultimately serves your greatest good. Without focusing inward, we will continue to search for things outside of ourselves to bring fulfillment and inadvertently miss the opportunity for true joy to take root. Only when we are whole, can we then help others be whole. You know the age old airline directive: secure your own mask first. I realized that working out is great, but means nothing if I am not also working IN.

I also realized that newsflash 📣You don't have to pick one career path or one "thing" to pursue in the world. In fact, if we are balanced and charged in our sacral chakras (more on the chakras later), we are always creating because we are in balance with our innate purpose of being creators. I can be a dancer, and a personal trainer, and an entrepreneur, and a healer, and a pet mom, and a pizza lover at the same👏🏾damn👏🏾time. We were not created for one grandiose achievement; rather, everything we create is an extension of our soul purpose who's birthright is to perpetually create.

(If Pause Play Wellness was a person🙌🏾)

So here we are and here is Pause Play Wellness!! And she looks goooood if I do say so myself!

Pause Play Wellness is all about coming home to yourself. It is about taking a beat and pausing to recognize patterns that no longer serve you, blockages that are inhibiting your wellbeing, and intellectual thinking that is disrupting your intuitive feeling. Once we create space for pause and better understand what the energetic body is sharing with us, we can then engage in play which encompasses any and all things that bring your inner child aka your most authentic self joy, while raising the vibe of both your being and of universal consciousness.

When you invest in a session at Pause Play Wellness, you invest in yourself and you sow seeds for harvests of peace, longevity, mindfulness, gratitude, and free-flowing love. As a healer, I have learned that we are all called to be both the healer and the healed. I am merely a facilitator in your journey to healing yourself, here to help guide the flow of energy that already exists within you.

I hope that gives you a little more insight into PPW! Thank you for indulging in our new birth story and I hope this encourages someone to breathe life into their own passion projects that are waiting to be given the go ahead. If you felt a nudge just now, this was meant for you and a sign from Spirit saying DO IT ❤️

Talk Soon,

Rachel Autumn
